National Taxpayer Union Scores Cassidy Natural Gas Bill as Cost Free

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Taxpayer Union has determined that Congressman Bill Cassidy's Job Creation and Energy Security Act of 2011 (H.R. 1712) would cost $0.  This bill, if enacted, would not raise the national debt or need any government subsidy.  For more information click here.

"Last November the American people charged Congress with improving our nation's balance sheet.  As lawmakers, we must keep this mission in mind as we work to improve our economy.

"The National Taxpayer Union indicates that the Job Creation and Energy Security Act is a cost free way to promote natural gas infrastructure growth, create jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil, without government subsidies.  These goals are accomplished without adding any additional financial burden on taxpayers."

H.R. 1712 would change Section 613(a) of the Internal Revenue Code to remove the $5 million retail sales limitation on independent producers of natural gas.  This bipartisan bill would encourage independent producers, as defined by the IRS, to expand natural gas vehicle infrastructure - lessening America's dependence on foreign oil.  All seven members of Louisiana's House Congressional delegation are co-sponsoring Cassidy's legislation.
